What is Crystal Selenite, and what is "Naica" The giant Selenite Cave?

Hi, y'all! I'm Elle, and this is my shop!
I'd love to tell you a little about Crystal Selenite. I sell many Selenite products because it is such a brilliant Crystal! Read below to find out why!

I absolutely LOVE Crystal Selenite.
It's cold feel, pure white color, the fibers hidden inside, Selenite is amazing. Selenite is a soft Crystal. It's actually the softest of all the Crystals. It has many metaphysical uses, and is still being studied by scientists to this day!

Selenite is found all over the world, but the Selenite products I sell, are mined, and brought back directly from Morocco. I have the blessing of being very close to an amazing Gemstone dealer. He travels all over the world bringing back all kinds of gemstones, and crystals direct to his warehouse! Then, I get to hand pick the pieces I want to put in my shop! His stones are truly brilliant!

But what is Selenite made from? What is it?

Selenite is a variety of the gypsum mineral. It also comes in varieties known as desert rose, satin spar and gypsum flower. Selenite is a beautiful, and versatile mineral that belongs to the gypsum mineral family. It is composed of hydrous calcium sulfate and is known for its transparent to translucent appearance. Selenite crystals often exhibit a pearly or glass-like luster and have a unique fibrous or columnar structure. Its name comes from the Greek word Selene which means “moon,” due to its moon-like glow when polished or exposed to light.

One of the fascinating characteristics of selenite is its softness. It has a Mohs hardness of 2, which means it can be easily scratched with a fingernail. Despite its fragility, selenite is still highly valued for its aesthetic appeal and spiritual properties.

Selenite is commonly found in evaporite deposits, where it forms through the evaporation of ancient saltwater bodies. It can be found in various parts of the world, including Mexico, Morocco, Brazil, the United States, and Poland.

The translucent nature of selenite allows light to pass through its crystal structure, giving it a unique glow. This property makes it a popular choice for decorative purposes, such as gemstone carvings, lamps, and other ornamental objects. Selenite’s distinctive appearance and soft, delicate texture make it a sought-after mineral in the world of crystal enthusiasts, collectors, and energy healers. *1

The Crystal Selenite is most closely associated with the crown chakra, which represents wisdom and spirituality, as well as the third eye chakra.

It’s a fibrous crystal so the “lines & cracks” you see within it are actually not cracks! They are crystal fibers within! Because Selenite is a soft crystal, you can actually carve on it with a nail file, or Dremel! When you put a light underneath it, it glows! It’s cool to the touch, heavy like most crystals, and is always so beautiful. It’s been said that when you lay gemstones on top of selenite (like a selenite bowl or plate) it charges the vibrations, and metaphysical abilities of that gem, or crystal! Selenite plates are often called “charging plates” for that reason.

Another fun fact with selenite is its metaphysical properties! It’s said to protect homes where selenite is placed around, ward off bad negative energy, and “dark spirits”! It’s also known to help with head aches when placed on the forehead. Some wear it for personal protection, and to amplify the abilities of other stones it is worn, or carried with.

It is often associated with clarity, purification, and spiritual connection. Many believe that selenite has the ability to cleanse and recharge other crystals, making it a popular choice for crystal healing and meditation practices. It is also thought to promote a sense of calmness and mental clarity, making it a valuable tool for relaxation, and stress relief.*1

If nothing else, it’s just a gorgeous crystal!! It’s actually been scientifically proven that crystals, and gems do give off vibrations. Although, the “healing properties” and meanings of these vibrations are unknown. Interesting though!

Naica - The giant Selenite cave discovered in Mexico

They discovered a GIANT selenite cave in Mexico called “Naica”. There is a documentary about it called “Naica: secrets of the crystal cave.” This cave is SUPER dangerous. It has selenite pillars that are up to 50 feet tall and 6 foot wide!

*

The cave is so hot, and humid that you have to wear special gear just to go in, and even then, you have a max of 30 min before you have to leave, or die. A few people tried to sneak in and mine the selenite when it was first discovered. Unfortunately, they got dizzy, disoriented, lost, and then died in the cave. When they were discovered soon after, they were essentially cooked. 😬

You aren’t allowed in the cave without a special permit, and even then you have to be a scientist. They don’t mine the cave. I would absolutely LOVE to see it someday. They have done many scientific testing in the cave, and found microscopic organisms within the oldest, and largest pillars that have made scientists suspect that these organisms may be the very first organisms on earth. They are still conducting experiments to this day! Check out the documentary on Prime "Naica: Secrets of the Crystal Cave"

Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to Selenite. There is just something magical about it! ❤️❤️❤️
