✨~~~~~~Abalone Shell Meanings & History~~~~~~
Abalone shells are believed to have the energy of the ocean, and are thought to symbolize protection, strength, and connection to the sea. There is much history with Abalone within indigenous tribes such as the Māori, and Apache.
Māori - Abalone shells are called Paua by the Maori people of New Zealand. Abalone shells are believed to symbolize peace, fertility, and the interconnectedness of all living beings. Abalone shells are believed to strengthen the wearer's body and heart, and to bring connectivity and harmony to relationships. The shifting colors of the shell in the light symbolize change and transition.
Apache - Abalone shells are used in ceremonies of passage from puberty to womanhood.
Apache myth tells the story of the White Painted Woman who survived a great flood in an abalone shell. The spiritual power of Abalone is even thought to carry the connection between generations, as it is worn by young women on their forehead, enhancing their spiritual and healing powers.
✨Abalone is one of my favorite shells! These pendants are smooth, iridescent, and truly beautiful.
